Bride: Damilola Coker
Groom: Sunday Adesina
Wedding Date: 26th July 2015
I had so much fun at my wedding. After everyone left, I looked to my husband and we both wanted to do it again. My husband’s name is Sunday, so we got married on a Sunday afternoon at the Biltmore Ballrooms. I had 5 bridesmaids and my husband had 5 groomsmen.
The morning of our wedding, we all got ready at the Ritz Carlton, which is 3 min from the Biltmore. I remember dancing, jumping on beds, and eating a chicken biscuit from McDonalds. Next thing I knew, I was in my dress and in the limo with my girls, headed to the venue.
I was whisked away to the bridal suite where my mom and the officiant met me. My girls circled me and prayed while I cried like a baby on my mum’s shoulder. My father passed away in 2014 so my mum walked me down the aisle. She had just celebrated her battle against breast cancer, so needless to say, the moment was extremely special for all of us.
I took in deep breaths as I walked down the aisle. Walking my way to a new life to be filled with happiness, laughter, challenges, and joy. I was nervous but I did remember to smile.
I looked up and my husband was crying. I was shocked. I didn’t think he would cry, that must have meant that I did something good. My mom handed me over to him, and all I could do was smile. He was extremely nervous. I remember telling him that he looked good and made small jokes to help him relax.
We prayed and shared our vows. I cried again. It was so unreal. So magical. We lit the unity candle, and sealed our love with our first kiss as husband and wife. That was when the party then started!
It was important to me that I see the hall before the guests, so after taking what felt like a million pictures, Sunday and I snuck in and took a look at everything. It was so beautiful.
When the reception started, I taught my bridal party an entry dance which they all learned the morning of the wedding. They did so well with the steps!
I had a few of my hostesses join in on the fun too. It was a bit of a flash mob, which I LOVED!!! The best part of the reception, besides the food, was dancing the night away. In my culture, people ‘spray’ you with money instead of bringing wedding gifts. So the longer we danced, the more money we made. I love to dance, and the DJ was fantastic. It was indeed Heaven on Earth. I would change nothing about the day!
Location for ceremony and reception – why did you choose it
It was important to me that my ceremony and reception venue was unique and exhibited a bit of our personality/style. I did not want carpet flooring or hotel chairs. I plan on getting married once, and I knew that I needed something grand to stand out in the minds of our guests and look aesthetically appealing in our pictures.
In my research, I came across the Biltmore Ballrooms which was formerly a hotel in midtown Atlanta, GA back in the 1960s. After it was renovated, it became an event center and office space.
Both my reception and ceremony took place in the Biltmore but in different ballrooms. The style of the Biltmore displays both Neoclassical and Georgian architecture. The tall pillars that line both the Georgian and Imperial ballrooms are exquisite.
The relief ceilings and crystal chandeliers that are featured in both rooms truly sets this venue apart from the rest. When I came across the venue, I absolutely fell in love. I knew that this would be the place that I wanted etched in my memory forever. The staff at this venue are also well experienced and they made us feel really special.
What was the inspiration for your wedding?
The theme for my wedding was ‘Heaven’, and my inspiration was the love story of how I met my husband. It was definitely unexpected. I met him at a time when I was spiritually solid in my faith. We met at a fellowship I was leading in church.
I didn’t expect anything when I met him, but it’s truly interesting how life surprises us. Our relationship is centered around Christ and our faith grounds us in our marriage. My theme of ‘Heaven’ is more a tribute to God for allowing me to experience Heaven on Earth by loving this special man and him loving me in return.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful and inspiring story with us, we wish you both every blessing in your union!
