Rashida and Sypros met in school back in 2004. Where Sypros waited until the last day of term to ask for Rashida’s number! A friendship developed shortly afterwards and the pair often found themselves lost in conversation as time passed. Says Rashida, ‘as the years have gone by, I have often been thankful for our foundation as friends. It has minded us together through difficult moments and we have never been afraid to laugh with each other or at each other’.
Wedding date: 30th July 2016
Ceremony and Reception Venue: Trevor Bailey Sports Ground, part of Dulwich College Venue Collection
The pair has a young son Tayari and Sypros, wanting to make the proposal a truly family affair, proposed to Rashida at their son’s adventure playground! Certainly a good way to kick off their engagement!
The couple got married on the 30th of July 2016. At the strikingly green grounds of Trevor Bailey Sports ground. Part of the Dulwich College venues collection. Rashida (bride) is Ghanian and Sypros (groom) is of African and Greek heritage.
Says Cynthia of Alegrar Events, who managed the day for the couple, ‘the wedding venue was a completely outdoor one. The ceremony took place under the open heavens in the early afternoon without any shade. I couldn’t resist saying a prayer that it would not rain. We already had some light drizzle earlier in the morning and I certainly didn’t want a repeat! The reception was in a marquee set up on the grounds’.
Azzedine, the pianist serenaded the guests with classical tunes as they and the groom waited for the bride to arrive. Personalised aisle runner and clear perspex bowls filled with floating pink daisies, lined up the aisle ready for the grand entrance of the bride.
The wedding was an intimate affair. The celebration was attended by close family and friends. The bridesmaids were made up of both the bride’s and groom’s sisters as well as other close friends. The groomsmen on the day was the couple’s little boy and the groom’s dad. So needless to say, it was a very close knit family affair.
The marquee for the reception stood quite sturdy against the striking greenery of the grounds. The couple chose a simple but elegant gold, shades of pink and ivory colour palette for their wedding and incorporated personal touches that made the day truly all about them. It was a casual relaxed affair with the hints of gold adding a touch of glamour to the day.
It was certainly a wedding with many moving parts, with lots of activities planned on the great outdoors (which was a such a delight especially for the kids). There were board games and bubble making. Waffle stands and photo booths for the adults and delicious summer barbecue provided by Waakeye Leaf Caterers who also designed the fusion menu for the wedding breakfast.
Says Rashida, ‘having an outdoor wedding has been the culmination of the dreams I’ve had since childhood. There are lots of activities to entertain guests and ensure that they have a good time and to me, it’s just as I envisioned it’.
We wish the couple a wonderful and blessed married life.
