Motunrayo and Ayodeji met some 10 years ago and fate has led them up to this point in their engagement and they’ll soon be tying the knot on the 27th of August 2016. Here, the bride to be tells their love story and why her beau is ‘the one’. (Images are from their recent engagement shoot at the Library of Congress – Washington D.C, USA)
I first met Ayodeji 10 years ago at his cousin’s (Kanyin) graduation ceremony in North Carolina. I thought he was cute back then and had a mini crush on him. Funny enough, we naturally got on well back then as he was one of the few people I mingled with the most.
Fast forward through the years, we kept in touch every once in a while through WhatsApp, Facebook etc., nothing too serious as I just took him like a brother. We constantly talked about what we wanted in a significant other so I gave him the gist about some of the guys I dated and he did the same.
Deji always knew what he wanted in a girl (family, religion etc.) but he hadn’t found that yet at the time. We were quite open and free with each other which was nice. Through several years of casual conversations, one thing he occasionally said was that he knows I’ll make an awesome wife to some lucky guy (I guess he was the one lucky guy ☺).
Our moment of truth happened when he called me 8 years later to ask about someone but instead talked on the phone for hours and hours about our likes and interests. I occasionally thought of him as a potential and mentioned him to my bff but shoved off the idea due to the long distance and besides, I just never thought our paths would cross for something serious to happen.
I also didn’t really believed in long distance relationships as I felt the person I’m with should be in the same vicinity as I am for us to get to know each other pretty well. However, the decision to call me that day was a life changing decision. In that same conversation was when I confessed that I had a crush on him 8 years ago which he was quite shocked by as he had no clue! He also mentioned he thought I was a pretty young thang back then — actually quite ‘hot’ was the word!
That night really got me thinking, ‘hmmm…what if?’…
That night really got me thinking ‘hmmm… what if?’ and I was eager to hear his voice again since we had such a good conversation and got on so naturally just like the first time we met. I eventually called him back after about 3 days, and from then on the rest was history.
Our friendship blossomed into something very special as he became my bff, my confidant, my lover and I couldn’t imagine not talking to him every night. We slowly opened up to each other as I gradually developed feelings for him and he for me.
I finally saw Deji in person after 8 years! (we hadn’t met physically again after our initial meeting 8 years prior) Oh my, I was quite nervous at first (since I wasn’t sure what he would look like or whether we would get on in person), but the day I saw him and spent some time with him was the day I knew I had found my husband!
That day was absolutely surreal and amazing — a feeling I can’t fully describe. He also knew right away that I was the one for him when we started dating, as he mentioned he had no doubt in his mind I was going to become his wifey. I just would have never imagined my husband was right here all this time, but I’m grateful to God for finding the one.
Thank you Motunrayo and Ayodeji for sharing your engagement shoot and love story with us, we look forward to the wedding!
