As your honeymoon approaches, it’s tempting to frantically ready yourself with your entire beauty arsenal. I’ll admit, I do exactly that whenever I’m about to travel! I have learned, however, that packing light and keeping up a solid beauty routine can be incredibly easy. So long as you don’t get caught without the essentials. Following an amazing wedding day and all the anticipation of a fabulous holiday with your new husband, you should be able to effortlessly look and feel your best.
So, if you’re heading off to bask in the sun drenched heat of the tropics, these beauty essentials have got you covered.
Tired eyes from travelling and enduring jetlag are pretty much a given. But for your honeymoon snaps you want them to be luminescent! Religiously slather on your trusty eye cream to target puffiness and dark circles, and your peepers will stay looking bright and refreshed.
This goes without saying! Sunscreen is always essential to protect your skin from harmful and damaging UV rays. Even if it’s cloudy, you need to indulge in lashings of it and reapply every 80 minutes and immediately after swimming to keep from burning. Opt for a fuss-free spray version so there’s minimal hassle.
I swear by P20 as a single application lasts the entire day. For the face I’d recommend a broad-spectrum sunscreen that is loaded with antioxidants and moisturizing agents, like Drunk Elephant Umbra Sheer Physical Defence SPF 30. And don’t forget about your lips! To keep your smackers nourished and kissable, go for Alba Botanica Very Emollient Lip Care SPF 25.
BB Cream / Tinted Moisturizer
I find that in warmer climes, foundation feels far too heavy on my skin. That’s why BB Creams and tinted moisturizers are so handy! They combine all the benefits of moisturizer, sunscreen, foundation, serum and primer all in one simple, lightweight application. Smooth a pea-sized amount over skin after cleansing, or combine with your regular moisturizer, for a natural, dewy finish.
I use the Laura Mercier Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20 in Golden Radiance. It’s fragrance-free so doesn’t irritate my sensitive skin, and the array of antioxidants and sheer finish leaves my skin looking radiant and healthy. Another great fragrance-free, antioxidant-rich, broad-spectrum option is the lovely Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream SPF 35.
It’s important to protect your hair from the sun and sea, as all the wind, humidity and salt can be tough on your hair. Pack a small jar of coconut oil with you and right before you go for a swim in the pool or ocean, smooth it all over wet hair. This will defend it from all the negative effects of chlorinated or salty water. Your hair will thank you – I for one am never caught anywhere in the world without coconut oil.
After a long day in the sun, treat your hair with Lush’s H’Suan Wen Hua. Don’t worry if, like me, you haven’t a clue how to pronounce it; all you need to know is that it’s packed with proteins and fruit oils to deeply moisturize and replenish tired, unruly hair. Apply evenly through your tresses for about 20 minutes before you shampoo and condition, and your hair will remain nourished and bouncy in any climate you put it through.
Lastly, and this is a big one, comes waterproof mascara. While Panda has been one of the songs of this summer, panda eyes are not something you want following you around on what should be the most magical trip of your life. Invest in mascara that will not smudge, smear or run, like Bare Minerals Flawless Waterproof Definition Mascara.
And there you have it. With these essentials you will be ready for anything those sunny, humid climes will inevitably throw at your skin and hair. Just remember to protect and treat all the key areas and most importantly, have a fantastic time!
