Christain Louboutin, the genius behind ‘The red soles’ joined the Beauty world 2 years ago. He teamed up with New York-based brand Batallure Beauty – the creative minds behind Material Girl by Madonna and the Justin Bieber fragrance – to form Christian Louboutin Beauté.
This isn’t the first time he’s dabbled in beauty, he created a one-off polish for Mac Cosmetics in the US, but this is the first time he’s gone solo.
The first beauty offering from the brand is a glossy, long-lasting and chip-resistant nail lacquer in the very same shade of red as the soles of every pair of Louboutin shoes. The polishes are grouped into three colour categories – Pop, Nude and Noir. Also in the collection are base and top coat.
He told the Daily Beauty Reporter “People approached me for years to do fragrance, but that didn’t make sense to me. I design shoes. I know about toes. When I do the ‘look books’ for the shoes, I’m always trying to find the best nail color to work with them. I even painted the nails white and then tried putting Pantone on them in post production, but it didn’t work at all, and I started by painting the bottom of my first shoes with the red nail polish”.
Packaged in a multi-faceted art deco bottle, the polish is topped with a dramatic “high heel” lid taking it to the same height (20.5 centimetres) as the designer’s Ballerina Ultima shoes, created as part of a collaboration with David Lynch who has a longstanding relationship with Christain Louboutin. The prices reflect the sheer decadence of the product – a single bottle costs £36.
Before you hit the beauty department, you should know that the polishes will live in the shoe department alongside all of those incredible heels.
“If I do beauty, I have to do it my way,” he once told Women’s Wear Daily and that is why we are a huge fan.
